In January 2025, EUVAC partners and EU stakeholders met in Athens (hybrid) to officially launch the project and align on objectives, work plan, and next steps toward a secure European Digital Vaccination Card service.
The EUVAC project (European Digital Vaccination Card) officially launched with a hybrid kick-off meeting in Athens, bringing together public health and digital health organisations from across Europe, alongside representatives from HaDEA. The meeting marked the start of a 36-month initiative focused on strengthening public health through secure, interoperable, cross-border management of vaccination records and greater citizen engagement.
What EUVAC aims to deliver
EUVAC is designed to enable citizens to store, access, and share vaccination information across borders through MyHealth@EU, supporting continuity of care when people travel, move, or receive healthcare in another Member State. The project follows a citizen-first approach, prioritising privacy, security, and user control of personal data, while also supporting healthcare professionals through better access to vaccination history and related health information.
EUVAC also contributes to stronger public health preparedness by supporting more reliable immunisation histories, improved compliance, and better-informed decision-making—ultimately helping reduce vaccine-preventable diseases across Europe.
Highlights from the kick-off meeting
During the meeting, partners:
- Reviewed EUVAC’s goals, priority use cases, and alignment with EU policy frameworks (including MyHealth@EU, EHDS, GDPR, and potential synergies with the European Digital Identity Wallet).
- Presented the scope and responsibilities across Work Packages (WP1–WP6), confirming roles, governance, and coordination approach.
- Confirmed key milestones and deliverables for the first project period, including early specifications, compliance planning, and dissemination activities.
Next steps
In the coming months, the consortium will focus on:
- Finalising collaboration and project management arrangements (including the consortium agreement and coordination routines).
- Strengthening communication and dissemination activities (website updates, regular partner inputs for events/news, and social media presence).
- Advancing early technical and compliance work to support the European Digital Vaccination Card service design, testing strategy, and future pilot preparation.
